Description:
Think of how you could use a special fabric in the center of this block, and is a good block for block exchanges. You may use a light or a medium for the outside edge triangles and squares. See Quiltin' & Rockin' With Aunt Pitty Pat Vol. #3 for more information on block exchanges.

Fabric Reqs For Block:
  • Light/Medium: 5" x 18"
  • Medium/Focus Fabric: 4 ½" x 4 ½"
  • Dark: 3" x 15"
Cutting Instructions
Piece Shape # Fabric Instructions  
A  1  Medium Cut one 3 ½" x 3 ½" square
B  8 Dark Cut four 2 3/8" squares. Cut in half diagonally once.
C  4 Light/Medium Cut one 4 ¼" x 4 ¼" square. Cut in half diagonally twice
D  4 Light/Medium Cut four 2" x 2" squares.

Assembly (1/4" seam allowance throughout):
Instruction Diagram
Step 1: Sew one Dark B triangle to both short sides of each Light/Medium C triangles. Press seams toward the Dark triangles. Flying Geese Unit
Step 2: Sew one Flying Geese Unit to either side of square A, making sure the points of the geese unit are pointing out. Press seam toward A. Center Row 2.
Step 3: Sew one Light/Medium D square to either end of the two remaining Flying Geese Units. Press seams toward squares. Row 1 and 3
Step 4: Sew Rows 1, 2, and 3 together and press seams open or toward one side.
