Description:
Bold and bright colors will make this block dramatic and medium and light pastels will give it a softer look. Make a quilt with several moth blocks or combine it with an alternate pieced block as seen in the quilts below.

Finished Size: 12 ½"


Fabric Requirements For Block:
  • 8" x 8" Dark for Body & Antenna
  • 12" x 12" Dark Medium for Wings
  • 7" x 4" Mediums or Darks of three (3) different fabrics for spots on wings.
  • 13" x 13" Background

Cutting Instructions (Letters may not match those in template)
Piece # Fabric Shape
A  1  Dark - Body
B  2 Dark - Antenna
C  2 Dark/Medium - Wings
D  2 Medium/Light #1 - Wing Spot 1
E  2 Medium/Light #2 - Wing Spot 2
F  2 Medium/Light #3 - Wing Spot 3



Refer to Placement Of Appliqué Pieces for position of each piece.

Assembly Order (Using your favorite method of applique: Hand Applique, Fusing, Satin Stitch by Machine)

Instruction
Step 1: Baste wings with pins, glue or thread to background. Do not overlap wings in center of block. Appliqué the wings.
Step 2: Baste Antenna then appliqué.
Step 3: Baste Body then appliqué.
Step 4: Baste the three different Spots on each wing (see illustration for placement), then appliqué.
Step 5:Trim the background piece to 12 ½" x 12 ½".
