Description:
Have fun using special fabrics in the center square using a wonderful batik, a juvenile print, or a gorgeous floral as your focus fabric.

Finished Size: 9"


Fabric Reqs For Block: (Example fabrics in parentheses)
  • 4 ½" x 18" Light
  • 4 ½" x 9" Medium
  • 4" x 8" Dark
  • 4" x 4" Focus
Cutting Instructions
Piece Shape # Fabric Instructions  
A  4  Light Cut two 3 7/8" x 3 7/8" squares and cut in half diagonally.
B  4 Medium Cut two 3 7/8" x 3 7/8" squares and cut in half diagonally.
C  4 Light Cut four 2" x 3 ½" rectangles.
D  4 Dark Cut four 2" x 3 ½" rectangles.
E  1 Focus Cut one 3 ½" x 3 ½" square.

Assembly (1/4" seam allowance throughout):
Instruction Diagram
Step 1: Sew each Light triangle A to each Medium triangle B. Press seams open or toward the Medium. (Section 1).
Step 2: Sew each Light rectangle C to each dark rectangle D. Press seams open or toward the dark. (Section 2)
Step 3: Sew a Section 1 to either side of two Section 2's. Press seams open or toward Section 2. Rows 1 and 3
Step 4: Sew the remaining Section 2's to either side of square E. Press seams open or toward Section 2. Row 2
Step 5: Sew Row 1 to Row 2. Press seams open or toward Section 2.
Step 6: Sew Row 3 to the other side of Row 2. Press seams open or toward Row 2.
