Review: By Dori Hawks

This popular book, “The Cat’s Meow”, (one of the most popular that Martingale has ever published) is back again with 19 projects using cats as the theme for her quilts. The designs are fun and imaginative, even if you are not a cat lover, you will be tempted to make one of these quilts. There is even one dog quilt called Firehouse Dogs for the dog lovers in the crowd.

My favorite is Cowboy Cats, with Mom Cats and Motley Crew (striped cats) coming in a close second and third. Jazz Cats is probably a favorite (the cover quilt) and those cat silhouettes in Susan’s Cats facing left and right is one you probably have seen made over and over. It still is a very exciting design.

This is the 10th anniversary of the publication of this book, and the quilts are great. There are even Sunbonnet Sue Cats. If you don’t have “The Cat’s Meow” in your collection, now is the time. It would also make a great gift for your favorite quilting friend who is a cat lover. Look for this book at your favorite quilt shop!
