Description:
Enjoy making this block with two colors, but try a variation with three or more colors. Pair it with another block for a completely different setting.

Fabric Reqs For Block: (Example fabrics in parentheses)
  • 8 ½" x 23" of light fabric
  • 8 ½" x 19" of dark fabric
Cutting Instructions
Piece Shape # Fabric Instructions  
A  2  Light Cut 1 7 1/4" x 7 1/4" square and cut in half diagonally twice.
B  12 Light Cut six 3 7/8" x3 7/8" squares and cut in half diagonally once
C  4 Dark Cut one 7 1.4" x 7 1/4" square and cut in half diagonally twice.
D  8 Dark Cut four 3 7/8" x 3 7/8" squares and cut in half diagonally once.

Assembly (1/4" seam allowance throughout):
Instruction Diagram
Step 1: Sew one B triangle to one D triangle along one short side to make a triangle unit. Press seam toward the dark fabric. Repeat with 6 more B & D triangles.
Step 2: Sew one D triangle to one B triangle along one short side, BUT make it a mirror image of the triangle units in Step 1. Press seam toward the dark fabric.
Step 3: Sew two of these B/D triangle units together to make a square (with 4 triangles in it). Repeat this step so you have three squares. (Section 1) Press seams open.
Step 4: Sew one light A triangle to each of the remaining two B/D triangle units (These should be a mirror image of each other) Press seams open. (Section 2)
Step 5: Sew a dark C triangle to either side of a Section 2. See diagram for placement. Press seams toward the dark C triangles. (Rows 1 and 3)
Step 6: Sew three Section 1 squares together. See diagram. Press seams toward the middle square.
Step 7: Sew Rows together in order. Press seams open.
Step 8: Sew the remaining four light B triangles to each of the four corners. See diagram. Press seams toward outer corners.
