Review: By Dori Hawks

Have you ever won the Block of the Month quilt blocks at your local guild meeting? Are you confused on how to set them together? Do you want to try something different, but simple, or maybe you made a set of sampler blocks and are trying to figure out how to set them? Are the blocks not even all the same size? They were “supposed” to be, weren’t they???

Joan Hanson has some creative, but easy ways to set those blocks. She even takes the math out of it by including charts: a reference chart for squares, calculating corner and side triangles, binding yardage requirements, diagonal measurements of blocks, and common bed sizes.

There are many setting examples in the book that she breaks down for you, so you can see how they are constructed, even tilted blocks, side-by-side blocks, framed blocks, sashed blocks, alternate blocks, and other block variations. There are no real complicated pieced or appliquéd borders or sashing included, just simple, why didn’t I think of that? settings that any of us can easily do with our groups of blocks.

This is a great reference book to use and one that I highly recommend. Look for this book at your favorite quilt shop!
