Quilters are always on the lookout for Christmas designs, and this new book, Quilt A Colorful Christmas,” will provide them with a large selection (39 designs by 17 different designers) of attractive patterns for gifts or decorating. All the familiar seasonal motifs are represented: snowflakes, snowmen, nativity, holly, stars, Santas, trees, even a traditional Della Robbia wreath (done in lovely hand appliqué), and more.
Predominantly fusible appliqué designs are balanced by a large number of traditional pieced blocks, with some crazy quilting, redwork, and frayed-edge quilting as well. Projects include tree skirts, stockings, runners, quilts, hangings, ornaments and a gift tote, in a full range of skill levels.
“Stairway to the Stars” is a beautiful 49” quilt made from alternating Variable Star and Courthouse Steps blocks in Christmas prints.
“Light of the World” features a single Star of Bethlehem block in reds with a feather quilted halo and redwork center.
“Holly Swirls” is a wall quilt of appliquéd holly swirl and cluster blocks and coordinating border, quilted with ribbons and cables.
“Reindeer Tracks” is an eye-catching design made of repeat blocks in red, green and white that are easy to piece and adaptable to many variations.
“Dancing Stars Tree Skirt” features a ring of hexagonal stars (not octagons as stated in the book), floating on a deep dark background.
Step by step instructions with clear illustrations and full-sized patterns, plus a spiral binding (that’s a bit small for the number of pages, but still a handy feature) make this book fun to use and a good value. Contents also include an embroidery stitch guide and metric conversion chart.
