Do you have one of the new sewing machines with embroidery capabilities? If so, this book is definitely for you. “Machine-Embroidered Quilts” by Jennifer Lokey combines quilt designs with embroidery designs in the center of the pieced blocks. But even if you do not have an embroidery machine, Jennifer includes an optional appliqué designs to use instead of the embroidery.
This book has a variety of settings, some traditional like a log cabin and a crazy quilt, but then some of the others are unusual quilt patterns set on point to make them even more varied. The illustrations are beautiful, typical of a Martingale book, and the instructions are very clear. Included is a General Instructions section, which explains in detail about machine embroidery basics (copyright, digitizing, fabric, hoops, machine needles, scissors, stabilizer, test sew-out, & thread), appliqué basics, hand embroidery stitches, and even trimming your embellished pieces.
Jennifer’s book is an inspiration for you to venture out into some different designs using your new embroidery machine. Have fun, try this one out and you won’t be disappointed. Look for this book at your favorite quilt shop!
