Laurie Bevan, editor of Romantic Quilts says, “A romantic quilt dresses up a room with elegance, and these beautiful quilts from creative Australian quiltmakers do just that.” The 13 projects in this book are made with beautiful soft florals, pastels, and vintage fabrics, but could just as easily be made using brights. The designs are romantic, using flowers and hearts, and “would be perfect for wedding gifts.” The quilts range from tablerunners to large quilts.

The settings for the quilts are varied and interesting. Many of them use a combination of appliqué and piecing. Some are traditional patterns, but some use surprising variations. It is fun to see what the talented quiltmakers of Australia choose for their designs. I especially fell in love with “Hearts And Roses,” and can’t wait to make the cute “Hearts And Bows.”

In the last chapter, titled Quiltmaking Basics, instructions for choosing fabrics, rotary cutting, machine piecing, appliqué (several methods), adding borders, quilting, and a great section on cutting and adding binding are given.

Romantic Quilts is definitely a book that would be great in your personal or guild library. Look for this book at your favorite quilt shop!
