Endless Stars - Strip-Piece Quilts That Sparkle
By Jean M. Potetz
That Patchwork Place
Just my kind of book: no templates and an easy, clever technique. This is what Endless Stars by Jean Potetz is all about about!
Jean developed an easy method for a quilt piecing design that was traditionally done with templates. She has taken the tedium out of this pattern and truly opened up the options. The possibilities and variations are ‘endless,” as you add more fabrics to your quilt. She starts you out with a couple of easier quilts using only two fabrics. Add more fabrics and the difficulty increases, but my, what great designs you can make!
Beginning with her write-up on “What Are Endless Stars,” to picking out fabrics so your stars stand out (with good contrast between the fabrics), to using her line drawing layouts for you to copy and experiment with various color variations using your colored pencils, and on to the method of cutting and sewing, Jean gives you a good background to get you started in her piecing method.
The blocks she teaches you come in two sizes 4” and 6”. A square ruler makes the process easy, and using the Bias Square® ruler by Martingale & Company makes it even easier.
The book is organized well, with natural progressions, “star tips” along the way, and photographed so well you can see the quilting designs. I am always looking at quilts to see how someone has quilted a quilt, aren’t you? It helps give me a better idea on how to quilt one of my future quilts. That was one thing that was always a stumbling block for me in the beginning….just what do you quilt where?
Add this to your personal or guild library. Think about “Endless Stars’ when choosing your next guild challenge. What fun it would be to see all the variations exhibited at your next guild show!
