Review: By Christine Schultz
In this new book from Terry Martin, floral fabrics in a wide range of color and scale are combined to create a bevy of knock-out quilts. (My favorite is “Black Beauty”, a dramatic variation on the blended-style quilt). The quilts presented feature floral prints (almost to the exclusion of any other type of fabric) in a very wide range, including irresistible imports, soft romantic flower prints, and harder-to-use busy floral prints, like those from the depression era.
The initial chapters on value and scale are very helpful in learning how to use all these prints together to best advantage.
Quilts in the pattern section range in level from basic to intermediate, and in size from 25 inches square to king sized. Techniques used include fusible appliqué and easy piecing, with added tips on cutting layouts and measuring for borders.
“Quiltmaking Basics” in the last chapter includes all the clearly explained basic elements of quilting that we’ve come to expect from most That Patchwork Place publications.
Look for this book at your favorite quilt shop!
