Description:
This block is a little challenging, because some of the pieces are rotary cut diamonds and also there are three "Y" seams. Don't let that stop you from making a fun block. Change the flowers, leaves and pot for each one and get a very interesting quilt.

Finished Size: 12"

Fabric Reqs For Block: (Example fabrics in parentheses)
  • 13" x 18" Light background
  • 4" x 18" Leaf (Green)

Instruction Diagram
Step 1: Sew the two flower pieces F and G starting from the outward point, sewing toward the inward point, stopping ¼" from the end. Backstitch. Don't press yet.
Step 2: With the flower fabric on top sew square A to one of the inward sides of the flower starting from the outside edge, stopping ¼" from the end. Backstitch. Still don't press.
Step 3: With the square A fabric on top sew the second side of square A to the other inward edge of the flower, starting from the point where you ended the seam in Step 2. Now you can press. Press the seams going in one direction so that the "Y" seam intersection opens up like a flower.
Step 4: Sew a green diamond E to one side of the flower edge from the outside point toward the inward point, stopping ¼" from the end. Backstitch. No pressing, yet.
Step 5: With the flower fabric on top, sew triangle C to flower fabric starting at outside edge and stopping ¼" from end. Don't press yet.
Step 6: With the triangle C fabric on top sew the second side of the triangle to the edge of the leaf, starting from the point you ended the last seam in Step 5. Now you can press! Press the seams all going in one direction so the center opens like a flower.
Step 7: Sew the second leaf H in the same way as Steps 4, 5, 6.
Step 8: Sew flower pot triangle I to the bottom edge of the flower section, matching center of triangle I to flower section center. Press seam open or toward the pot fabric.
Step 9: Sew B square to then end of one rectangle D. Press seam open or toward B square.
Step 10: Sew the other rectangle D to the side edge of the flower and pot section. Press seam open or towards the flower and pot.
