Dresden Flower Garden
By Blanche Young and Lynette Young Bingham
C & T Publishing

This new book by Blanche Young is written with Lynette Young Bingham, the third daughter to collaborate with on a quilting book with her. "Blanche is known throughout the world of quilting as having the ability to take a traditional design and create new, efficient methods of construction." Simplifying and using a variation of several patterns: mainly Dresden Plate and Grandmother's Flower Garden, but also including Wagon Wheel and Endless Chain she has created a great looking quilt entitled Dresden Flower Garden. No hexagons, no, never!

There is a short, but informative discussion about color and fabric choices (the sky's the limit!), and also discussion on your approach. (Plan colors and positions or just start pulling fabrics and sew away!)

"The techniques for cutting and piecing are also hybrid combinations (in the design for the block) of both old and new." They also combine "the use of traditional templates but with rotary cutting to make cutting as quick, easy, and efficient as possible."

There are three different block sizes included in the book. Of Course, Blanche, with her unwavering resourcefulness shows you the way to efficiently cut out the pieces for your quilt, even when using up your scraps. The organizational methods suggested make construction a breeze.

Throughout the instructions are some great tips from Blanche and Lynette to help clarify a point or show an easier way of doing a technique. I looked forward to reading those, because as soon as I saw one I couldn't wait to read it to what great information was there.

There are many beautiful photos of quilts done in many variations of the Dresden Flower Garden. This book is sure to be a great asset to your personal or guild library.

Look for this book at your favorite quilt shop!
