Description:
This is a great block for block exchange with a variation on the traditional Churn Dash block with the center square divided into three sections. This allows for a signature or design to be drawn and included in the exchange. See Quiltin' & Rockin' With Aunt Pitty Pat Vol. #3 for more information on block exchanges.

Fabric Reqs For Block:
  • Light: 2" x 4"
  • Medium: 4" x 8"
  • 1st Dark: 3 ½" x 7"
  • 2nd Dark: 4" x 10"
Cutting Instructions
Piece Shape # Fabric Instructions  
A  1  Light Cut one rectangle 1 ½" x 3 ½"
B  2 Medium Cut two rectangles 1 ½" x 3 ½"
C  2 2nd Dark Cut four rectangles 2" x 3 ½"
D  4 1st Dark Cut two squares 2 3/8" x 2 3/8". Cut in half diagonally once.
E  4 Medium Cut two squares 2 3/8" x 2 3/8". Cut in half diagonally once.

Assembly (1/4" seam allowance throughout):

Step 1: Sew two Medium B rectangles to either side of the Light A rectangle. Press seams open or toward the Medium. B/A/B Unit
Step 2: Sew each of the four Medium E triangles to each of the four 1st Dark D triangles. Press seams open or toward the dark. Makes an E/D Unit.
Step 3: Sew an E/D unit to either side of a 2nd Dark C rectangle. Repeat for the other E/D Units and another C rectangle. Press seams toward the rectangle. Rows 1 and 3.
Step 4: Sew a 2nd Dark C rectangle to either side of the B/A/B Unit. Press seams toward the C rectangle. Center Row 2.
Step 5: Sew Row 1, 2, and 3 together. Press seams open or toward one side.
