Description:
This a terrific two fabric block! Try a variation with a third color down the middle of the geese or a range of hand dyed fabrics in a color run down the middle. Another excuse to buy more fabric or maybe use that wonderful set of hand dyed fat quarters!

Fabric Reqs For Block: (Example fabrics in parentheses)
  • 3" x 42" Dark
  • 9" x 18" Light
Cutting Instructions
Piece Shape # Fabric Instructions  
A  4  Dark Cut two 2 1/8" x 2 1/8" squares. Cut in half diagonally.
B  16 Light Cut eight 2 1/8" x 2 1/8" squares. Cut in half diagonally.
C  4 Light Cut one 6 ½" x 6 ½" square. Cut in half diagonally twice.
D  32 Dark Cut eight 2 ½" x 2 ½" squares. Cut in half diagonally twice.
E  1 Dark Cut one 2 3/8" x 2 3/8" square.

Assembly (1/4" seam allowance throughout):

Step 1: Sew a triangle D to either side of a triangle B making a Flying Geese unit. Press seams open or toward dark.
Step 2: Sew four flying geese units together. Press seams open or away from the point of each flying geese unit.
Step 3: Sew a triangle A to the end of each flying geese unit next to the long side of a B triangle. Press seams open or toward the dark.
Step 4: Sew a triangle C on either side of two of the flying geese units. Press seams open or toward the light.
Step 5: Sew the point end of 2 flying geese units to opposite sides of square E. Press seams open or toward the center square E.
Step 6: Sew Section 1 and 2 to either side of Section 3. Press seams open or toward the triangle C's.
