Fabric Requirements For Quilt:
Karen Combs' Texture Stripe Fabric (CF2477):
  • ½ yard of TS-15 (greens)
  • ¾ yard of TS-17 (purples)
  • ½ yard backing fabric
  • Paper backed fusible web
  • Multi-colored decorative thread

    Cutting Instructions
    Piece # Fabric Instructions  
    A  4  Light Green From Green, cut (4) 5" squares from the lightest valued fabric strip.
    B  5 Light Purple From Purple, cut: (5) 5" squares from lightest valued fabric strip.
    C  4 Medium Purple From Purple, cut: (4) 2 ½" x 4 ½" rectangles from medium
    D  4 Dark Purple From Purple, cut: (4) 2 ½" x 4 ½" rectangles from darkest fabric strip
    E  5 Medium Green From Green, cut: (5) 2 ½" x 4 ½" rectangles from medium
    F  5 Dark Green From Green, cut: (5) 2 ½" x 4 ½" rectangles from darkest fabric strip.
    Borders  4 Dark Purple Cut (2) 2" x 13" and (2) 2" x 15 ½" of medium/dark purple.  
    Binding  3 Medium/Dark Purple Cut (3) 2" x 27" of medium/dark value purple.  

    Assembly (1/4" seam allowance throughout):
    Instruction Diagram
    Step 1: Following the block diagram here, sew medium and dark purple 2 ½" x 4 ½" rectangles and press seams open. Sew medium and dark green 2 ½" x 4 ½" rectangles together and press seams open.
    Step 2: Trace (9) heart motifs onto a paper-backed fusible web. Cut out hearts slightly larger than the tracing line. Following the manufacturers directions, fuse ONE heart onto the back of each rectangle set, lining up the center of the heart with the seam line.  
    Step 3: Cut out the heart on the tracing line. Center the hearts as shown below. Fuse the purple hearts onto the light green squares and the green hearts onto the light purple squares.
    Step 4: Using a decorative thread and a blanket stitch, stitch around each heart.  
    Step 5: Trim squares to 4½". Arrange the hearts as shown in diagram above.  
    Step 6 - Borders: Sew 2" x 13" border strips to top and bottom of quilt. Press seams toward quilt. Sew 2" x 15 ½" border strips to right and left sides of quilt. Press seams toward quilt.

    Layer the backing, batting and quilt top. Baste the layers together. Quilt with multi-colored thread in a meandering stipple stitch.

    Sew binding strips together into one long strip and bind as desired.
