Description:
This block has a lot of movement in it, like a pinwheel. Use it on it's own with or without sashing, of combine it with another block, maybe even an applique block.

Finished Size: 12"

Difficulty: Intermediate (just because of the cutting of the pinwheels, but don't let that scare you. Learn to cut a new shape!)

Fabric Reqs For Block:
  • 8" x 8" square Light
  • 5 ½" x 20" Medium or Dark #1
  • 5 ½" x 20" Medium or Dark #2
Cutting Instructions
Piece Shape # Fabric Instructions  
A  4  Light Cut one 7 ¼" x 7 ¼" square. Cut in half diagonally twice
B  2 Medium/Dark #1 Cut two 9 3/8" x 4 ¾" rectangles. Using the 45° line on your ruler, cut a point on the one end of the rectangle. See How To Cut Pinwheels  
C  2 Medium/Dark #2 Cut two 9 3/8" x 4 ¾" rectangles. Using the 45° line on your ruler , cut a point on the one end of the rectangle. See How To Cut Pinwheels  

Assembly (1/4" seam allowance throughout):
Instruction Diagram
Step 1: Sew a Light triangle A to the short side of each Pinwheel B and C. Press seams open.
Step 2: Sew each A/B Unit to a A/C Unit. (Section 1 and Section 2) Press seams toward A/B Units. Look at picture of block for correct placement.
Step 3: Sew Section 1 and Section 2 together. Look at picture for correct placement. Press seams open or toward one side.
