Description:
This block was picked because we have relatives living in Mississippi. Depending on your fabric, you could get a real twirling motion.

Fabric Reqs For Block: (Example fabrics in parentheses)
  • 4 ½" x 15" 1st Medium
  • 4 ½" x 15" 2nd Medium
  • 4 ½" x 15" Dark
  • 4 ½" x 16" Light
Cutting Instructions
Piece Shape # Fabric Instructions  
A  2  1st Medium Cut two 3 ½" x 3 ½" squares.
B  1 Dark Cut one 3 ½" x 3 ½" square.
C  2 2nd Medium Cut two 3 ½" x 3 ½" squares
D  2 1st Medium Cut two 2 3/8" x 2 3/8" squares
E  2 2nd Medium Cut two 2 3/8" x 2 3/8" squares.
F  4 Dark Cut four 2 3/8" x 2 3/8" squares.
G  4 Light Cut four 3 ½" x 3 ½" squares.

Assembly (1/4" seam allowance throughout):

Step 1: Using the two D 1st Medium and two E 2nd Medium squares place them right sides together on top of each of the four Light G squares, matching one corner and 2 sides. Sew diagonally across the D and E squares. Press the small triangles D and E toward the outside of the block. Trim off the extra seam allowance.
Step 2: Do the same thing in the opposite corner with the dark fabric F squares. (Section 1)
Step 3: Sew Row 1 in this order: A, Section 1, C. Press seams allowances open or toward the A & C.
Step 4: Sew Row 2 in this order: Section 1, B Section 1. Press seam allowances open or toward B.
Step 5: Sew Row 3 in this order: C, Section 1, A. Press seam allowances open or toward A & C.
Step 6: Sew Rows 1, 2, 3 together. Press seam allowances open or to one side.
