Love plaid fabrics? “Mad About Plaid” by Debbie Bacon has 8 patterns using plaid fabrics. Included in the patterns are wall hangings, lap quilts, and bed quilts, even one quilt with curved edges. The designs include mostly pieced quilts, but two of them have some appliqué.
Debbie’s designs are varied, her instructions clear and illustrations beautiful. In her introduction, Debbie gives us a history of plaid fabrics and how to consider size and color when picking plaids for your quilts. If you have been afraid to use plaids in the past, she will give you confidence to use them in your next quilt. You will “learn to add texture, movement, and contrast to quilts with plaid fabrics.”
In conclusion, “Mad About Plaid” has a chapter on Quiltmaking Basics, which includes Choosing fabrics, Rotary Cutting, Machine Piecing, Foundation Piecing, Appliqué (Needle-Turn, Freezer-Paper, Reverse, Bias Tubes, & Fusible), Quilt Settings, Mitered Borders, Accent Piping, and Finishing Your Quilt. This is a great book with some great designs. Look for this book at your favorite quilt shop!
