Description:
This example uses four fabrics, but you could use two high contrast fabrics for an outstanding block.

Finished Size: 8"


Fabric Reqs For Block: (Example fabrics in parentheses)
  • 3" x 25" Dark
  • 3" x 11" 1st Light
  • 3" x 20" 2nd Light
  • 4 ½" x 16" Medium
Cutting Instructions
Piece Shape # Fabric Instructions  
A  20  Dark Cut ten 2 3/8" x 2 3/8" squares. Cut in half diagonally
B  4 1st Light Cut two 2 3/8" x 2 3/8" squares. Cut in half diagonally .
C  16 2nd Light Cut eight 2 3/8" x 2 3/8" squares. Cut in half diagonally.
D  4 Medium Cut four 3 ½" x 3 ½" squares.

Assembly (1/4" seam allowance throughout):

Step 1: Sew each Dark A triangle to four 1st Light B triangles and sixteen 2nd Light C triangles. Press seam open or toward the dark.
Step 2: Sew the four A/B squares together to form a pinwheel. Press seams open or all in one direction.
Step 3: Sew the A/C squares together to form four more pinwheels. Press seams open or all in one direction.
Step 4: Sew Row 1 and 3 in this order: A/C pinwheel, D, A/C Pinwheel. Press seams open or toward D.
Step 5: Sew Row 2 in this order: D, A/B Pinwheel, D. Press seams open or toward D.
Step 6: Sew Rows 1, 2, 3 together. Press seams open or to one side.
